An excellent and crisp little work on the paternal care of God by James Smith [d.1862], Spurgeon's immediate predecessor at the Park Street Chapel. We don't recall ever handling this particular title before.
The publication is perhaps significant, likely published toward the beginning of the Civil War by the American Tract Society, who were at the reading to prepare the faith of wives and children who would soon become widows and orphans.
Smith, James. Our Heavenly Father; Or, God of Refuge and Strength. By Rev. James Smith, Cheltenham, England. Boston. American Tract Society. c.1861. 66pp.
A very good copy, bound in cloth, minor chips and rubbing but generally solid, with generally bright pages aside from some toning on pages 32, and 33.
