Desirable volume of sermons designed explicitly for the evangelization of slaves in the stronghold of the Confederacy, Charleston, South Carolina. Through that slave port, 25% of Americans to this day can trace their arrival in America. 

Volumes like this placated the Southern church's desire for evangelism, but at the same time often framed Christian submission to the will of God as submission inside the societal structure, i.e. "be a good slave."
