A wonderful volume from The Christian Library, which attempted to take important works, often more expensive works, and make them available for American homes.

The present work contains several really great reads, not least of which is the Visit to American Churches, which was undertaken by Andrew Reed and James Matheson on behalf of the Congregational Union of Wales. Their reports on the status of the American Church, during the Second Great Awakening, are important first-hand, outside view reports of the situation. They discuss the revival in the Presbytery of Geneva, Protracted Meetings, The "New Measures," the Anxious Seat, Special Prayer Meetings, Meeting Edward Payson, Slavery, the Duty of the Church toward Slaves and Native Americans, Abolition, etc.
