On a crisp cold morning, two days' walk south of Dove Lake/Cradle Mountain on the Overland Track, the Autumn rising sun bathes the low heath and Mt Pelion West in a rainbow of colour. At these latitudes and elevations, snow can fall on the mountains at any time of the year. Whilst it is only 1,560m in elevation, Mt Pelion West carries patches of snow from a recent fall. The Overland track in the Cradle Mountain Lake Saint Clair National Park is a multi day walk from Dove Lake in the north to Lake Saint Clair in the south.
