The high pastures of Alpe di Siusi, also known as Seiser Alm, are used to graze milking cows, or to make hay to feed them during winter. The valley is scattered with small log cabins or barns, each being one part of the myrid small holdings into which the valley is divided. The herbage contains many varieties, looking more like a salad than grass. It is little wonder the cows look so satisfied as they rest while chewing their cud. The ragged mountains in the background, forcing their way through the pasture and forest, are Sassolungo (Langkofel) and Sassopiatto (Plattkofel), between them making up the Sassolungo group of mountains in the Western Dolomites of the South Tyrol in northern Italy. As we were photographing the mountains, lit by the setting sun, the full moon rose and was seen to nestle between the two massifs of the Sassolungo group, which between them created "Luna's Cradle".
