A simply stunning set, and exceptionally rare on the market. This 24 volume set includes the complete work of that prince of puritan theologians, John Owen [1616-1683]. Widely considered to be the most important 17th century puritan academic, his works certainly contain a complete body of divinity that is both scholarly and deeply experimental. 

Seamlessly worked together are treatises on Arminianism and Calvinism, The Duties of Pastors and People, The Death of Death in the Death of Christ [which set him at odds with perhaps the most prominent practical puritan, Richard Baxter], On Communion with God, The Glory of Christ, The Mortification of Sin, a 7 Volume Exposition of Hebrews, etc. . . a true tour de force of theology equally balanced between close attention to the text and close attention to the heart. 

C. H. Spurgeon called Owen, ". . . the most profound divine who ever lived." And said of him that "It is unnecessary to say that he is the prince of divines. To master his works is to be a profound theologian." 

This set contains volume 17, which has not been included in any of the reprints. It includes Owen's own method of theological study, his survey of the history of theology and its possible future, and untranslated Latin theological works.

Very good condition overall in half pebbled morocco with marbled cloth boards with very nice patination. A few volumes lightly tender at prelims, but on the whole the best set of this important work I expect to ever handle. Just beautiful on the shelf, and a true theological and devotional treasure.
