This Lucky Lock was the first pencil that Parker produced, in 1922.  In 1923 it was replaced with the Duofold pencil, which also had a Lucky Lock style cap but had a painted barrel.  The pencil is in mint condition, no dings, personalisation, or other blemishes. It is a very rare item.

On November 19th, 1921 the American Stationer magazine ran an article statin that:

'Parker is on the point of putting a propelling pencil on the market'

The pencil duly appeared in 1922.  Parker also ran adverts for the pencil as a 'Non Clog' instrument and made a point of ensuring that it was known that it had an 'expel and retract' mechanism for the lead, giving it an important advantage over current 'expel only' pencils.  It ceased production when the Duofold pencil was introduced in 1923.

The 'Lucky Lock' name was meant to chime with buyers of the 'Lucky Curve' pens.  It refers to the 'bayonet' fixing of the cap, locking it in place.  The eraser is stuck inside the cap, it has no effect on function and would probably come out with coaxing but, as the pencil is in such perfect condition, I don't think it wise.

The box is new and of high quality, it will serve well for transport, protection and display.  I have printed out the original instructions for use of the pencil, which will be included.

This is a rare, antique pencil and is clearly in collectable condition but it is still perfectly functional.
