Handwoven wool low pile Persian rug. Measures 7’4”x3’7”. Features a fine triple border and three central medallions on a field of faded brick red. This rug has many boteh and fertility motifs woven throughout with pops of marigold, pink, and indigo. The rug is in good vintage condition, shows some wear. Please note that some photos were taken outside in dappled light.
Boteh motifs, often recognized as the forerunner of the paisley pattern, are a significant and widely used design element in Persian rugs. These motifs resemble a teardrop or a curved leaf shape and are characterized by their intricate detailing and symbolic meaning. Boteh motifs are thought to symbolize a range of concepts, including fertility, life, and eternity. Some interpretations suggest they represent a flame, a cypress tree, or a combination of a leaf and a flame, embodying both life and transformation.
Please note that we do our very best to honestly depict our products.
