The ABW Model 2 Micarta builds on the same foundation as the aluminum version — fully American made, built around MagnaCut, streamlined design, dialed-in flipper action — and adds a handle material that changes the character of the knife over time. Micarta is a paper or linen-based composite that develops a natural patina with carry and handling. The surface warms, darkens slightly in the contact areas, and takes on a texture that reads as personal rather than uniform. No two Micarta Model 2s will age exactly the same way.
The mechanism is unchanged. Ceramic caged bearings in the pivot, ceramic ball detent, hardened 416 stainless hardware throughout. The flipper action on the Model 2 is one of the cleaner ones ABW has produced and the Micarta handle does nothing to change that. What it does change is the feel. Where the aluminum version has the diamond-like anodized surface with a peened texture, Micarta provides a warmer, more organic grip that improves with use rather than showing wear. The 3.25" MagnaCut blade is heat treated and cryogenically tempered. Titanium pocket clip, titanium backspacer.
Made in Weaverville, North Carolina by Michael Martin. Every component except screws and bearings machined in-house.
Note from Lone Star Knife & Supply: The Micarta Model 2 is the version for people who want their carry gear to develop character. The aluminum version looks the same on day one as it does a year later. The Micarta version does not, and that is the point. MagnaCut, ceramic bearings, liner lock flipper action, North Carolina made — all of that is identical. The handle tells a different story the longer you carry it.
The Model 2 Micarta is the version for people who want a precision American flipper with a handle that ages with them. MagnaCut edge retention, ceramic bearing action, liner lock reliability, and Micarta that gets better the more it gets used. Michael Martin machines everything himself in North Carolina. That is the full story.
