What an absolute beauty for the collector of the Pilgrim's Progress editions or as a gift. Stunningly illustrated with fine engravings by Thomas Stothart, housed in an elaborate divinity morocco binding with raised bands, elaborate gothic blind tooling, and a relief panel on front board, foredges gilt and thematically tooled to match the Pilgrim's Progress theme, and the turn-ins gauffered.
This is a truly top-tier binding that would cost more than the purchase price to replace.
Bunyan, John. The Pilgrim's Progress: In Two Parts. With Original Notes by the Rev. Thomas Scott. The Thirteenth Edition Including the Poetry Hitherto Omitted. London. Henry G. Bohn. 1859. 476pp.
Very attractive, sound, and crisp. Some minor rubbing at extremities, all consolidated, scrape on rear upper right corner, also consolidated. Hinges are solid and strong, binding stable and remaining supple, and text and tissue-guarded engravings all in very good order. A gem.
