Dodge, Richard Irving [Lieutenant-Colonel of the United States Army]. Introduction by William Blackmore. The Hunting Grounds of the Great West. A Description of the Plains, Game, and Indians of the Great North American Desert. With Illustrations by Ernest Griset. London. Chatto & Windus. 1877. First Edition. 440pp.
Rebound in buckram, c. early 1900's, but the binding has done its job. The text itself is absolutely pristine. Aside from a small repair at the map fold and a small tear at the gutter hinge for the map [as usual], the finest textual example we anticipate handling. Bright, crisp, and very sturdily bound. Buckram is faded and fine as is, or would be superb in a suitable buffalo leather binding.
A well-worn example sold at Hindman for over $800 three years ago. Stained and handled copies still fetch hundreds of dollars.
