A very attractive 17th century vellum bound edition of Isaac Vossius' important commentary on the Septuagint. One of the most academically connected Christian scholars of the era, he was friends with Hugo Grotius and James Ussher. With the 17th century rise of deism, there were several apologetic responses. As now, some chose to double down on what could drift toward hyper-literalism. Others chose to open to limiting and fresh views of the nature of Scripture. Vossius was of the latter and bore significant ire for his view that the flood of Noah was likely local. A radical idea at the time, it landed his works on the banned book registry.
Isaaci Vossii De Septuaginta Interpretibus, Eorummque Tralatione & Chronologia Dissertationes. Hagae-Comitum. Ex Typographia Adriani Vlacoq. 1661. 439pp.
A very good copy, bound in vellum that's ex library, with the vellum lifted on the interior of the pastedowns. Text is generally solid, with generally bright pages and light foxing.
