An unusually crisp, bright, clean first edition of one of two books Spurgeon issued in an attempt to more broadly disperse the writings of prominent puritans. His other featured Thomas Brooks; this one Thomas Manton.
Unusual in the trade, and this a fine example.
Spurgeon, C. H. Illustrations and Meditations: Or, Flowers from a Puritan's Garden. Distilled and Dispensed by C. H. Spurgeon. London. Passmore & Alabaster. 1883. First Edition. 280pp
Very good original richly embossed duo-tone design in black and gold. Very good example with only the very slightest rubbing at extremities and one stray minor abrasion across the head of the front cover. Endpapers, both front and rear, a bit toned with some minor foxing. Contents bright, crisp, solid, and clean. I did not a few very, very light pencil marks in the margins. Easily erased. The previous owner was kind.
