Rare letter by Robert Haldane [1764-1842]. Robert and his brother, James, were forces of nature in late 18th and early 19th century evangelicalism. Revivalist theologians, rare phrase, as they were, they were trained initially by David Bogue, gave themselves as among the first missionaries of the London Missionary Society [1795], but sensed a calling to the rural communities of their homeland in Scotland. Revivals popped up throughout the country. 

The Haldanes caused quite the stir when they became Baptists. Though not sectarian, they were not ones to keep their views to themselves and the change did cause some degree of dissension. 

Robert especially was a gifted writer and theologian. His work on Romans remains in print today by the Banner of Truth Trust and was highly regarded by Spurgeon. His lectures on Romans, given at the University in Geneva, were the cause of a significant Evangelical revival there. 

The present letter pertains to his 1839 work, The Evidence and Authority of Divine Revelation. Interestingly, whatever pages he has forwarded, the suggested placement never took place. Both the first and second editions have the chapter on miracles and the genuineness of Scripture next to each other, without interruption. I suspect the letter refers to the final chapter in that section, on the doctrine of Inspiration, as it may have been easier to "fit in" there than in the middle of a section already typeset.

Friday, 2 O'clock,

Sir,

I find I omitted to send you the additional chapter, which you will receive herewith. It comes in, you will observe, after that on the credibility of miracles, & before the chapter on the genuineness and authenticity of the Holy Scriptures. It will be necessary to insert it, although you should not be able to send me a proof tonight. If I get one tomorrow or on Saturday it will make up the number you proposed this week. 

I have just now received your note, and if you will send for copy early tomorrow morning, it will be given.
