We love the Trust Sweet Iron Wideport Segundo Baby Pelham bit, because it gives flexibility in the mouth but still makes it difficult for them to lean on it - so it's comfortable without sacrificing the control.
The Sweet Iron bits are made of steel and have a recognizable blue color. Sweet Iron will oxidize when it comes into contact with humidity, the surface corrosion tastes sweet and naturally stimulates the saliva production. This will cause the horse to salivate more, which in turn will encourage a better acceptance of the bit. The process of oxidization changes the blue color of the TRUST bits to a brownish-grey. This is the desired effect of the Sweet Iron bits.
If a Sweet Iron bit is not used for a while, an orange-brown corrosion layer may form on the mouthpiece. Simply remove this by wiping the bit with a damp cloth.
The wideport segundo is a double-jointed mouthpiece with a port. In contrast to the other ported bits, this mouthpiece can move loosely, which creates some lateral flexibility. Because of the port there is less pressure on the tongue but it is spread over the layers. Although there are sharper edges at the port which causes extra pressure points on the tongue. Because the port can move, horses generally find it difficult to lean on this mouthpiece.
