Very scarce first edition of an important collection of sermons by mentee of Jonathan Edwards and significant Great Awakening figure, Joseph Bellamy [1719-1790].

Scarce in the trade, only appearing at auction in 1917 and in 2020, where an inferior copy to the present offering fetched more than our asking price, and without the significant provenance as well.

Attractive flourished 1759 autograph of Rev. Roland Green [1737-1808] with his original Latin notes in response to the work along with relevant Scripture passages in his hand. Green was minister at Mansfield, MA from 1761 through to his death in 1808, i.e. 47 years without interruption save his years of service as Chaplain to the Mansfield Regiment during the American Revolution. Land he owned is now the home of the Mansfield Chapter House of the Daughters of the American Revolution. He was of eminent reputation and usefulness; the public school in Mansfield bears his name to the present. 

Original full calf, rubbed, a bit tender on corners, but very attractive and sound as shown. Some occasional foxing, generally solid and clean. Rfep lacking, minor damage to inner lower margin on last two leaves impacting a few words. An unusually well-preserved example of a rare text.
