Wonderful little group of 16 Wesleyan Methodist Society Quarterly Tickets for the 1850's and early 1860's for Mr. and Mrs. John and Mary Shallard. The Shallards the great grandparents of Methodist Historian, Fred Wilshire, from whose estate these are descended.
John had long been a Methodist, by this time aged, who had known Victory Purdy when Purdy was aged and John but a young man.
Most of the tickets are signed by E. A. Telfer [with various versions of his signature and monogram]. Telfer was an influential Wesleyan Methodist, then Primitive Methodist leader. Wilshire notes him as a Free Methodist, which he may well have been later.
