A nice H.S. "Pinky" Gillum salmon rod, 8'6", 2-pieces, 2-tips, built for what feels to me like a #9 line. Serial #I-946. Fast action. Good condition except for a couple of "camp emergency" wraps in two places on the guides, which should be restorable by any competent rod maker. The butt has a small facet crack that was original to the blank and is sealed over by the varnish coat. One tip has a 1" long section of clouded varnish where it is lifting off the blank (again, very fixable). A few inches higher there is a tiny corner nick in the varnish from a glancing blow from a hook. The cane is lightly flamed and glued with resorcinol. The node pattern is two opposed. The wraps are brown with a black, yellow, black edge at the keeper and male ferrules. The ferrules are original super Z and oxidized. The stripper is perfection and the guides are high-speed steel oxidized black. The serial number is lettered on the butt just below the female and just above the males. The varnish is generally good, hard, but with some scratches and scuffs. The grip is a 7-inch long western style with a hidden pocket cap under the heel. The seat is an up lock-screw lock with curly Spanish Cedar wood spacer. The screw-lock nut is aluminum stamped "H. S. Gillum, Maker" in  a cartouche. The seat has a pull-out plug for a fighting butt but none was provided with the rod as there is no provision for one on the bag or tube. Comes with the original bag and tube but no label.
