Attractive c.1900 full morocco yapp binding Newberry Bible with lengthy inscription to pioneer missionary to Central America, John Ruddock [Rudduck]. 

Ruccock was born in Growell, Ireland in 1897. Emigrating to America, he was converted in 1918, and subsequently moved to Los Angeles, where he became an earnest worker in the Latino population. He then began traveling to Mexico to work with children on the weekends. He finally ventured to the misison full-time in 1926, first to Guatemala, and then to Honduras.

His story is told in the book Lighting the Mosquito Coast and his oral story preserved by Wheaton. His father was the prominent Irish Plymouth Brethren leader, Andrew Reid Ruddock. 

Inscribed, "To our brother John Rudduck [sic.] as a token of esteem, from a few of his Brethren, on the occasion of his departure to Los Angles, in remembrance of many happy days of sweet fellowship enjoyed together. 'My brother, and companion in labour, and fellow-soldier Phil. 2.25.'"

Likely gifted to him on his departure from Ireland to Los Angeles.
