Alfred Philippe created this legendary Poinsettia Brooch for Trifari circa 1950. The faux diamond and ruby glass flower petals are invisibly set in two layers. There are clear pavé rhinestones arranged in narrow, pointed "rays" in the middle of each petal. The red petals are a rich, gorgeous red color. Having first worked at Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels, Alfred Philippe brought expert craftsmanship and absolute elegance to Trifari "costume" jewelry from 1930 until 1968. This brooch was featured in a 1961 Women's Wear Daily, and appears as the cover photo of Judith Miller's Book, "Costume Jewelry". This Poinsettia brooch was produced as part of a limited series of "invisibly set" jewels by Alfred Philippe, and is a highly sought-after piece.
It is signed "Trifari" with a crown, and the copyright mark - see photos. This piece is in excellent vintage condition with wear consistent with age. Shown on Antiques Roadshow Series 35 RAF Marham 1 Norfolk October - November 2012 BBC and on PBS as Best of Costume Jewelry.
