Very rare sammelband of somewhat defective, but scarce 18th century Baptist works in a very attractive, patinated period leather binding.

Also, rare early American provenance, having belonged to Daniel Culver, who served in the American Revolution from 1775-1778. He was wounded in the right arm by a cannister shot by the British at Harlem Heights about September 1776, but continued to serve, though wounded, for a further two years. He served under Colonel Brown and was a Corporal under Captain William King, commanded by Colonel Jonathan Ward. Signed by Culver on the pastedown. Other Culver related family information throughout in MSs.

Also provenance from the Pearce family as well, likely preceding that of Culver. The Pearce begins with Nathan [Jr.], son of prominent Rhode Island Baptist divine, Nathan Pearce [Sr.]

Rev. Nathan Pierce, son of Deacon Mial and Judith (Ellis) Pierce, was born February 21, 1716, and died April 14, 1793. Rev. Nathan Pierce was a Baptist minister, preaching for forty years in one church, called the Pierce Meeting House. His son, Rev. Preserved Pierce, also preached in the same house for forty years. Elder Daniel Martin, son of Deacon Melatiah Martin, was ordained pastor of the Pierce or Second Church in Rehoboth, February 8, 1753, and there were between thirty or forty members under his care. Elder Martin died November 18, 1781, a few years after Nathan Pierce was ordained. Rev. Nathan Pierce married, October 6, 1736, Lydia Martin, daughter of Ephraim Martin, born July 17, 1718, died December 21, 1798. She was of Barrington, R. I., and was said to have been 'a remarkably smart woman', short, black-eyed and handsome, noted for her learning.
