A fair copy of a very desirable work in which Samuel Rutherford attempts to argue against the Congregationalism of New England, via John Robinson's important work issued before his death in 1625, and in interaction with John Cotton, etc.,

Many of the Puritan emigrants to America [including more moderate Presbyterians] from England felt the Conservative / Pro-National Covenant wing of the Westminster Assembly had simply replaced the Pope and the Prelate with the Presbyter, and had just as significant of a desire to impose on individual Christian's, Minister's, and Congregation's consciences, including with the use of synodical or political pressure and power. 

The present example, previously belonging to prominent Presbyterian divine, Archibald Alexander, with the remains of his book plate under the remains of an institutional bookplate as shown.
