In need of restoration, but a wonderful piece of Princeton / Presbyterian history. This is the complete two volume, true first edition of Alexander's landmark work on Isaiah. And each volume is boldly autographed on the blank ffep, "Mrs. E. C. Alexander, from her brother, J. A. Alexander, Sept 23, 1851" in bold sepia ink and in Alexander's distinctive hand.
Alexander, J. A. Isaiah Translated and Explained. An Abridgment of the Author's Critical Commentary on Isaiah. Two Volumes. New York. John Wiley. 1851. First edition. 397 + 460pp.
Textually, both volumes are usable, but the spines have been taped over and the boards are loose; one signature loose in volume two. A special set with a little TLC.
