Quite a nicely preserved copy of the first edition of Ralph Waldo Emerson's classic on the role of man in the world, on the "method of nature," transcendentalism, etc.,
Emerson's work inside the rather bleak emotional landscape of liberal New England churches served to re-enchant the natural world. Far less transparently Christian, it does share much in common with re-enchantment movements ranging from George Macdonald to C. S. Lewis and today Dallas Willard and James K. A. Smith.
Emerson, R. W. Nature; Addresses, and Lectures. Boston and Cambridge. James Munroe and Company. 1849. First Edition. 383pp.
A good + copy, bound in cloth, generally solid, with generally bright pages, light foxing, and a minor tide mark to the corner text block.
