A very nicely preserved edition of an increasingly rare volume detailing the initial call and sending the group now known to missionary history as, "The Cambridge Seven."

The group included six Cambridge students and one from the Military Academy who, in the wake of the revivals of D. L. Moody in England, sensed a call to the foreign field in China. It had been the cry of the China Inland Mission, then growing more quickly than they could manage, for "Cambridge Men" with not only missionary zeal, but organizational skill to come help the work of God maintain its sustainability as it blossomed.

Before they left for the field, the group toured England and their story saw dozens more called to China. Then, after their departure, their story was published and sent to every YMCA in America and the United Kingdom for distribution among young men and women.

Among the "Cambridge Seven" were C. T. Studd, W. W. Cassells [who could later become Bishop to China], Cecil Polhill-Turner [who would join in with the Pentecostals], etc.

Broomhall, Benjamin. A Missionary Band. A Record and an Appeal. London. Morgan and Scott. 1886. First Edition. 151pp.

Large 4to, near folio measuring 8 x 10 inches in original elaborate gold and black embossed olive cloth, some wear and bumping, but very solid. Retains the rather rare albumen photograph of the Seven, often lacking. Illustrated throughout. Very solid and clean.
