Very rare entire year of an important Portland, Maine Newspaper with loads of content produced originally for The Portland Transcript. These assemblages of entire runs of newspapers are increasingly rare, and this a wonderful example.

Of special note, issue after issue contain original stories of the bizarre and supernatural and spooky under the heading "Thrilling Tales." Sort of dime novel, early horror content reminiscent of amateur Edgar Allen Poe, etc. I don't recall seeing a section like this in other papers of the period. 

Also includes an extensive review of the first edition of Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe, and multiple articles relative to Nathaniel Hawthorne, The House of the Seven Gables.
