Very rare first edition of the second installment [they were issued separately] of John Cennick's scarce Great Awakening hymnals. Part III was not issued until 1745. To my recollection, this is the first we have handled.
John Cennick [1718-1755] was a very early co-laborer with both John Wesley and George Whitefield. When the two split, he side with Whitefield and joined the Calvinistic Methodists, then later the Moravians.
Cennick, John. Sacred Hymns for the Use of Religious Societies. Generally Compos'd in Dialogues. Part II. Bristol. Printed by Felix Farley, M. DCC. XLIII [1743]. 96pp.
Charming pocket-sized volume probably in a late 18th century binding with additional blank sheets added at rear to make up for an easier binding. Hinges through and tender. Text generally very good save last leaf which is repaired somewhat awkwardly, but without loss.
