The first edition of the single most ambitious and personal of all the Spurgeon biographries. In essence, an autobiography, though compiled by Susannah Spurgeon after his death in 1892. A massive undertaking, in four large folios, illustrated extensively, and in a much better state than usual. Because of the size and weight, these are often completely disbound.
Spurgeon, C. H. C. H. Spurgeon's Autobiography. Compiled from His Diary, Letters, and Records, by His Wife and his Private Secretary. Four Volumes. London. Passmore and Alabaster. 1897. Variously Paginated.
A very good set, bound in cloth. Volume III has some wear as shown to the upper spine, and a few sections have separated from the backing material, including the frontis of volumes I and IV, but still generally solid. These almost always are tender in terms of binding because of the sheer size, each volume being near folio. Pages are bright and clean.
