Very rare and finely preserved example of the first edition of Edwards' Practical Sermons, edited under the oversight of Jonathan Edwards Jr. and published for the first time in Scotland rather than in the United States.

Fascinatingly, it is as the title suggest, more practical divinity, including on the nature and intent of excommunication, how Christians ought to think about Hell, etc. 

The best example of this rare work we have handled.

This the copy of Rev. Thomas Uppadine, a Baptist divine at Bourton on the Water and friend of Abraham Booth. It was presented to him by the prominent Deacon of Bourton on the Water, William Palmer [dated to 1792]. 

Sermons include: 1-2 The importance and advantage of a thorough knowledge of divine truth (Nov 1739) - 3 God the best portion of the Christian (Apr 1736) - 4 The sole consideration, that God is God, sufficient to still all objections to his sovereignty (June 1735) - 5 Great guilt no obstacle to the pardon of returning sinner. [Note, p. 54] `Not dated. Full original calf, rubbed at extremities, very minor and now inactive worm tracing on lower half inch of front board and a single pin-hold trace in margin of first section of the text. Text exceptionally solid, crisp, and clean with only a few minor, neat pencil marks.
