Very attractive set of the "Beauties" of Ralph Erskine [1685-1752]. Younger brother of Ebenezer Erskine, he was a prominent Dissenter, deeply experimental preacher and author, and very much interested in Scotland experiencing a revival of religion. At the same time that George Whitefield was traveling with a bound volume of the sermons of Ralph Erskine and making notes about them in his journal, Ralph and Ebenezer were writing to invite Whitefield to Scotland to preach. He came, and returned over a dozen times, most notably during the season of the Cambuslang Revival in 1742.

Good + in nice half leather with raised bands. Some rubbing and bumping, but attractive and solid. Foredges marbled. Probably mid-19th century bindings. Frontis of Erskine in volume 1 relaid.
