1846 Novel on the “Great Disruption” of the Scottish Free Church. Rare.
A fascinating quasi-historical novel regarding the then-recent events of the Great Disruption, leading to the formation of the Scottish Free Church, home of Thomas Chalmers, Robert Murray M’Cheyne, the Brothers Bonar, etc., It is largely fictionalized with slightly satirical figures like Rev. Simon M’Quirkle, etc., It was meant to be a light-hearted take on the controversy that had recently been raging in Scotland. It was again issued in 1877 in a more refined version by its author.
No copies on the market or in the auction history. A fascinating little item, and signed twice by a likely original owner, George Darsie.

Good to very good in original rather attractive half leather, raised bands, etc., Very slightly cocked and some general handling. Textually very good.
