Very rare on the market, this is Volume 1 of Alexander McLeod's superb periodical that attempted to blend sound Presbyterian theology with a society that was ordered along Covenanted lines; this meant that social equity, justice, care for the oppressed and marginalized, etc., were an important part of the civic responsibility of the Church and the government. In Scotland, we saw Thomas Chalmers and others engage in similar activities, developing housing for tradesman and those engaged in the arts, for immigrants and laborers.

Additionally, there is a heartbreaking section here on the Georgia Lottery of Cherokee lands. The State simply seized the lands from the Native Americans and then picked names to see what Europeans they would go to. This was the destabilizing move that led to the formal Trail of Tears. The land was taken, and then, "look, they have nowhere to live. . . so get movin'."

There are also extensive sections dedicated to slavery, the colonization societies and movements to populate Liberia, etc., with liberated slaves.

Very rare with no other copies on the market.
