A really beautifully produced dramatic gothic style leather binding edition of Anderson’s classic honoring specifically the generation of godly women during the period of the “Killing Times” in Scotland. To our recollection, this is the first work specifically celebrating women of faith in such a dedicated and thorough manner.
A wonderful work and a really lovely copy. Fine full-page engravings throughout. This copy previously the property of Ian R. K. Paisley, influential Protestant Irish Minister and Politician during the 20th century.
Anderson, James. The Ladies of the Covenant. Memoirs of the Distinguished Scottish Female Characters, Embracing the Period of the Covenant and the Persecution. Glasgow. Blackie and Son. 1853. 627pp.
In a really handsome, chunky 8vo sized volume with beveled leather boards, raised bands, and attractive blind tooling. Deeply embossed on the boards is the Covenanter motto, “For Christ’s Crown and Covenant.” Some rubbing, but all consolidated, very sound, and nicely polished.
