Weepong Myrtle (Agonis flexuosa)
After seeing a chalice, I decided to modify its design to make it possible to include variety of pierced void shapes. The blank was first turned, hollow formed and sanded. I then marked out all the the voided shapes. After this I painstakingly pierced, carved and sanded the voids, which exposed a variety of unexpected grain characteristics. Stains were used to highlight the piece and polished with three coats of Danish oil.
