A very unique item; we were not even aware it existed. Printed privately in 1822, a wonderful, pebble morocco binding of poems written by Lewis Way.

Lewis Way [1772-1840] was an influential figure in several important movements during the early 19th century. He was present at the famed Albury meetings where the new premillennial dispensationalism was nearly invented [along with Edward Irving, Henry Drummond, etc.]. He was associated with Edward Irving, the proto-pentecostal of the modern Pentecostal movement, and he led the way in the renewal of missions to the Jewish people. He was a founding member of the Church's Ministry among Jewish People, The Society for the Propagation of the Gospel among the Jews, etc.

Many of the poems in the present work are directly related to the subjects above. For instance, Revival of the Hope of Israel, several poems on Isaiah and other prophets neatly weaving together Israel, Messianic expectations, and the Christ, and a wonderful example called Recollection:

When late in Israel's sacred cause
I felt my spirit burn
To vindicate Jehovah's laws
Ordaining their return, etc.

In which he explains his sense of calling to the Jewish people.

This copy inscribed by Way's grandaughter to a friend.

Way, Lewis. Poems. Stansted. Imprinted at the Private Press. 1822. Unpaginated. c.100 pp.

Good + in pebbled calf, very slightly bowed, lightly rubbed. A lovely family association copy of a very scarce work.
