An impressive, folio sheet sized etching of David Livingstone, pioneer African missionary and explorer.

The etching was done by and signed by H. Scott Bridgwater from the original oil painting of Havill, now in the National Portrait Gallery. From a Limited Edition issued by the Museum Galleries of London in 1927. 

This is a rare large format etching, the sheet size measuring 14.75 x 18.5 inches and the engraving itself measuring approximately 9 x 11.5 inches. 

Henry Scott Bridgwater (1864- 3 January 1950) was a British painter, draughtsman, mezzotint engraver, and etcher. He specialized in mezzotints after the works of Sant, Fildes, Leighton, Millais, Greuze, Romney, Reynolds and Hoppner, and exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts from 1889 to 1946. 

This would look absolutely beautiful framed by itself, or with an autograph of Livingstone [which we do usually have on hand; please feel free to inquire]. 

Some handling and creases in margins, etching itself is crisp, bright and clean. A Very fine example, and boldly signed in pencil by Bridgwater at the lower right.
