Rather rare Indian imprint by a leading thinker and deeply respected man of prayer among the Methodist missionaries of India, James Fairbrother Edwards. The Indian Christians, and especially the Methodists, were among the most impacted by the "one way missionaries" sent out from the Azusa Street Revival, via influential indigenous Pentecostal Christians such as Pandita Ramabai, etc. Many early references to the work of Amy Wilson-Carmichael. 

Edwards recognizes and celebrates the ongoing Indian Pentecostal revival, acknowledges speaking in tongues as a manifest gift of the Spirit, but also directs the movement back to a strong Christological missiology that is well-rounded, including the miraculous, but also teaching, ethics, etc. Perhaps a word in season still. An excellent read.

Good copy in original cloth, some rubbing and bumping, hinge split for 1 inch on rear hinge. This the copy of Wesleyan scholar C. M. Ellingwood. Notations throughout. Not signed by missionary, John Ruddock, but this came to us with his books and we believe the extensive notations and notes to be his. A bit shaken.
