Mayo, Henry. The True Scripture Doctine, of the Mode and Subjects of Christian Baptism; With some Strictures on Dr. Gill's Sentiments of the Moral Law, and Justification from Eternity. In Six Letters to a Candid Antipaedobaptist. Being a Full Answer to Dr. Gill's Sermon, at Mrs. Carmichael's Dipping, and to all that he ever Published on Baptism. London. James Buckland. 1766. 72pp.
Henry Mayo [1733-1793] was pastor at Northampton and then at Wapping, London. He was also tutor at the Indpendnet / Presbyterian college and a prominent man among the Independents. Very rare copy of his primary response to John Gill, with whom he had entered into a rather public debate on Baptism and Gill's "antinomian" tendencies, though the present focuses on Baptism generally.
Good, crisp, and complete; removed from a larger sammelband. Some scattered foxing. Very scarce.
