Wonderful group of 50 full manuscript sermons, ranging from 1864 through 1902, by prominent Brooklyn, Presbyterian divine, John Dunlap Wells [1815-1903]. John's' grandfather emigrated from Scotland with his parents in 1775 and enlisted in the Revolution at just 14 years of age. Our John, born in 1815, graduated Union College in 1838, and then from Princeton in 1844. Between 1842 and 1850, he served various missions of the Presbyterian church in New York City and was then finally settled at the church he would give his life to, South Third Street Presbyterian [Brooklyn]. He pastored until his death in 1903 and South Third Street planted several other Presbyterian churches throughout the city.

Wells authored many works, including The Pastor in the Sickroom [still in use today], Saved by Grace, and many more. He was also a leading member of the New York Colonization Society and active in the fight against slavery and for the rights of black Americans during reconstruction.
