Very rare and important early production of the revivalist sermons of Charles Grandison Finney. These were released during the period of his ministry in New York and while he was still in favor with many of the experimental Presbyterians, such as Gardiner Spring, etc. In the end, it was this text though the solidified the Old School Presbyterian response against him. Sermons urging and giving instruction on how to become regenerate, directly challenging the authority of "Elders" as rooted in the Presbyterian tradition, and non-tradition views of Election could not go unnoticed.

Original elaborately stamped cloth with minor loss at head and tail of spine as shown; corners bumped and some fading to cloth. Front interior hinge reinforced with 1840 neat inscription to E. Bond on blank ffep. Original frontis of a very young Finney [perhaps the earliest engraving of him] guarded by original green tissue. Some minor foxing and very slight worm tracings on rear leaves, not affecting text.
