Electromyography is considered an extension of the neurological physical examination. EMGs help detect the presence, location, extent and therapeutic response of a variety of neuromuscular diseases. NCS are performed to measure the amplitude, latency, and velocity at which the nerve impulse is traveling through the nerves’ fibers. The nerve evaluated—sensory, motor or mixed —and anatomical localization define the technique to be used selecting the appropriate recording and stimulation zones.
