Wonderful autograph letter with intact original envelope entirely in the hand of perhaps the most influential Baptist hymn-writer of the 19th century. 

Robert Lowry [1826-1899] was for 45 years a prominent Baptist divine, holding important pastorates and working as a regular lecturer throughout Baptist institutions, etc., It was his influence on Baptist hymnody that forms his enduring legacy. He served as the editor of over 20 Baptist hymnals and authored more than 500 hymns, including Shall We Gather at the River, Nothing but the Blood of Jesus, and How Can I Keep from Singing. Each of which still continues to inform the Evangelical imagination and give language to Christian worship today. 

The present full autograph letter is addressed to the Honorable Charles P. T. Moore of West Virginia and a fellow graduate of the University of Lawrenceburg regarding some fraternity business and informing him that William L. McCorkle, also of the Fraternity, will be present, etc. 

What the letter perhaps lacks in theological content, it makes up for in rarity and presentation. Lowry autographs are quite rare and desirable and often just "clipped." Further, it is a lovely full, single page letter entirely in his hand and retaining the original envelope, so perfectly suited for framing.
