A really sobering item; the present was the personal Bible of Chaplain Harold L. Dunson, Captain in the United States Navy. The volume is stamped by him on the pastedown, signed at the top of the ffep, Chaplain Harold L. Dunson | Austin, Indiana, and then at the lower ffep, Fort Jackson, S.C., December 12, 1944. 

Only months after receiving this Bible, Dunson was deployed from South Carolina as part of a special team to accompany the liberating forces who would attempt to take and rescue the prisoners at Dachau in April of 1945. His dual role as both Chaplain and as an accomplished photographer would both prove invaluable. The scenes, both spiritual and aesthetic, were horrifying. 

Today, the Harold L. Dunson Collection of films and photographs forms an important part of the archives of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, alongside the Steven Spielberg Collection, etc.
