In the evening Autumn light, Aoraki/Mt Cook glows white and gold. A winding track follows the Hooker River, leading to Hooker Lake and Glacier at the base of Aoraki, in the Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, South Island, New Zealand. The highest mountain in New Zealand, Aoraki has great spiritual significance to the Maori people and is of national significance to all New Zealanders alike. As the sun sets, first the valley, then the mountain peaks recede into darkness, and I am left wondering how many feet have trodden this path "To the Sacred Mountain"?
