Excellent and rather rare biography of one of Scotland's most influential divines, George Lawson [1749-1820]. He was minister at Selkirk, established a school for training young Presbyterian ministers right in his home at a time when there was a desperate need because of the breach with the Scottish church, authored a still very much-loved works on the Life of Joseph, Proverbs, and on Ruth and Esther. . . highly commended by Spurgeon.
Macfarlane, John. The Life and Times of George Lawson, D.D., Selkirk. Professor of Theology to the Associate Synod. With Glimpses of Scottish Character from 1720 to 1820. Edinburgh. William Oliphant and Co. 1862. 482pp.
Rather scarce. Original attractive cloth, dulled on spine and corners bumped. Else clean, crisp, and very sound.
