AV Proyectos 78 Dossier Aires Mateus

With light as the main element and with a characteristic presence of subtle interplays of solids and voids, the work of Aires Mateus is located mainly in Portugal. Both born in Lisbon, Manuel (1963) and Francisco (1964) established their office in 1988, and since then they combine their work at the studio with their academic duties. Aside from their geometric and sculptural houses, the brothers have built noteworthy buildings like the cultural center in Sines, the residence for the elderly in Alcácer do Sal, and the research center in the Azores. The current dossier collects seven projects, located in their home country and also in Spain, France, Belgium, and Switzerland.
